Storytelling in Early Childhood Education to promote environmental education:
Abstract
This research is part of the discussions on the role of storytelling in Early Childhood Education, focusing on the promotion of Environmental Education. Art and narrative are recognized as essential forms of expression and cognitive and socio-emotional development for children. The study aims to understand teachers' perceptions of language teaching and child development, applying these concepts to storytelling practices to promote Environmental Education. The primary goal is to develop an integrative pedagogical approach, resulting in a digital pedagogical guide. The research, qualitative and exploratory in nature, was conducted in the Municipal Education Network of Governador Mangabeira, involving two schools, one in the rural area and another in the urban area. Document analysis and discussion sessions with teachers revealed that, although storytelling is widely practiced in Early Childhood Education, its application tends to focus on artistic and linguistic skills, with little exploration of integrated approaches that involve environmental and socio-emotional issues. The study contributes to the creation of resources that encourage a more comprehensive and engaging educational approach.
