Therapeutic Gardening Workshops in Psychosocial Care Centers (CAPS): A Literature Review on Benefits and Applications
Abstract
The implementation of therapeutic workshops in Psychosocial Care Centers (CAPS) represents a fundamental strategy for the psychosocial rehabilitation of individuals experiencing mental distress. This study reviewed the literature on the impact of environmental practices, such as therapeutic gardening, on mental health and the strengthening of CAPS users' autonomy. The review encompasses the historical and legislative aspects of mental health in Brazil, addressing the transition from the asylum model to a biopsychosocial perspective. Gardening workshops have shown potential to reduce anxiety levels, stimulate social interaction, and promote income generation, contributing to social reintegration and sustainability. Additionally, these activities foster environmental education and the conscious use of natural resources. It is concluded that including gardening workshops in CAPS is a promising therapeutic tool to improve users' quality of life and encourage sustainable practices within the mental health domain.
